COSIT holds 1st Distinguished Guest Lecture

The first distinguished Guest Lecture of the College is scheduled to hold on Friday 22nd June, 2012 at the College auditorium (Time: 12 noon).  The guest speaker is an erudite scholar of international repute and the immediate past Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Prof. Peter Okebukola.  The title of the Lecture is: “Rethinking Teacher Education in Nigeria”.

COSIT Kicks off monthly Seminar

The Dean, Prof. Arigbabu has directed the College Seminar Committee to draw up seasonal roster for the College monthly seminar.  Sequel to this, four (4) papers are expected to be presented by lecturers from two (2) departments every month.  To kick-start the programme, the Dean will present the first as scheduled below:

 Olawumi, Fasunwon bag Ph.D

Mr. A.T. Olawumi of the department of Agricultural Production and Management has bagged Ph.D in Forestry Economics and Management from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.  The effective date of the award is 31st October, 2011.  Also Mr. B.T. Fasunwon of Biological Sciences department bagged Ph.D in Applied Zoology from Olabisi Onabanjo University with effect from 23rd January, 2012.

 Senate goes tough on Fees

Senate at its 50th statutory meeting of Wednesday 30th May 2012 frowned at the lackadaisical attitude of students toward payment of school fees for the 2011/2012 session and therefore decided that:

1.       Any student who fails to pay his/her school fees in full on or before Friday 29th July, 2012 shall loose his/her studentship for the 2011/2012 session.

2.       Scores of examination(s) written by any student who did not pay up his/her tuition fees (full or half) on or before Monday 14th May, 2012 be cancelled.

3.       If any student pays after Monday 14th May, 2012, any paper written between that date and the date he eventually paid shall be cancelled.

COSIT ceremonial committee has scheduled send-off ceremony for past Deans of the College – Prof. T.W. Yoloye, Prof. Ademola Onifade and Prof. R.O. Ayeni as follows:

 Expulsion

At its 55th statutory meeting of Wednesday 25th April 2012, Senate approved the expulsion of the following students from the University due to irregularities on the O’level results presented by them to secure admission into the University.

NPMCN holds 3-day Workshop

The National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN) has announced a 3-day course in Advance Research Methodology scheduled for Wednesday 4th – Friday 6th July 2012 at National Sickle Cell Centre, opposite Lagos Teaching Hospital (Luth), Idi Araba, Lagos.

The Workshop is organized for Consultants, Lecturers and Senior Registrars across all Medical/Dental and Allied disciplines.  However, TASUED Lecturers in allied disciplines and Laboratory Technologists would find the course handy to enhance their research capabilities and knowledge.

Attendance at International Conferences & Short Courses

The University Research and Training Committee (RTC) has announced that staff wishing to attend international conferences and short courses could apply for ETF support fund.  The deadline for submission of requests is 11th June 2012.

RTC organizes 3-day Workshop

Vice-Chancellor has given approval to the University Research and Training Committee (RTC) to organize a 3-day workshop on research writing skills. RTC in a special release to all Deans indicated that the format of the workshop is as follows:

Day I

Keynote address by the Vice-Chancellor

 

Lead Paper 1 – Beginning and designing a viable research – research models and their unique applications – Presenter to be nominated by the Committee

Lead Paper 2 – Attitude and statistical preferences of academics towards research parameters and proposal writing – Presenter to be nominated by the Committee

Day II & III

Group sessions (at each college level) on the following topics:

Ø  Sources and techniques in searching and reviewing of related literatures.

Ø  Instruments for research and methods of collecting data.

Ø  Data analysis/testing of hypotheses and computer operational skills in research.

Ø  Research findings and discussions.

Ø  Understanding the concepts of citations, references and plagiarism in research.

Ø  Writing a research report (practical session).

Ø  Writing a research proposal for international funding.

NAMP holds 23rd Annual Colloquium and Conference

The 23rd Annual Colloquium and Conference of the Nigeria Association of Mathematical Physics (NAMP) is scheduled to hold as follows:

Theme  :  The Role of Mathematics and Physics in National Development

Date       :  Tuesday 6th November to Friday 9th November 2012

Venue   :  NUA, Redeemer’s University, Redemption Camp, Nigeria.
